As the new year began, health and wellness goals were at the forefront for many, and the UK's top food and diet tracking apps saw varied engagement levels. Data from Sensor Tower offers a snapshot of these trends in the first quarter of 2021.
MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter, a long-standing favorite, showed a peak in weekly active users (WAUs) reaching approximately 1.3M in early January, followed by a gradual decrease to about 1.2M by the end of March. Downloads spiked to around 62K in the first week of January and tapered off to approximately 34K by the end of the quarter. Revenue followed a similar pattern, starting at around $152K in late December and reaching a high of $245K in early February, before stabilizing around $178K by March end.
NutraTech Ltd's Calorie Counter + also experienced a rise in January with WAUs climbing to over 130K and a significant download count of 45K. The app maintained a steady revenue stream throughout the quarter, with a notable increase to $185K in the last week of March.
WeightWatchers: Weight Health began the quarter with a revenue of approximately $41K, which saw fluctuations but ended on a slight downtrend at $44K. Downloads for the app started at around 12K and declined to just over 3K by the quarter's end. The WAUs for WeightWatchers showed a modest increase from roughly 46K to 53K in early March, before dropping back to about 48K.
FitNow's Lose It! – Calorie Counter saw its highest revenue in the first week of January at around $34K, dipping to nearly $19K mid-quarter, and then recovering to approximately $26K. Downloads followed a downward trend from 13K to 8K, with WAUs showing a slight decrease from 125K to 107K.
HealthVida GmbH & Co. KG.'s Fastic: Fasting & Food Tracker had a stable start in terms of revenue, with around $35K, dipping to $17K, and then rising back to $23K. Downloads began at 30K, but by the end of March, they had decreased to 9K. The WAUs saw a high of 112K in early January, which slowly declined to 86K.
